Oh Canada
It is a personal choice which must be taken seriously by understanding your individual needs, goals, and values. A great place to start is by learning more about the country’s history as this will help you to better adapt to local life and to have success in your new city.
When it comes to Canada, many only associate it with harsh winters, landscapes with crystalline lakes, and the northern lights. But Canada is much more than that. Today, it is one of the main destinations for students and people looking for a new country to call home.
In 2020, Canada was voted the second best country to live in, according to a survey called “Best Countries”, (likar o site – https://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/best-countries-2020-which-nations-ranked-highest-and-why/) released every year by the consulting firm BAV Group and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
A combination of several factors, however, makes the Maple Leaf country welcoming, unique and surprising.
Why, then, choose Canada ?!
Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa are among the 20 best cities in the world to live in, according to Mercer consulting firm that conducts the annual survey. This classification is based on factors such as housing, economy, political and social stability, and healthcare systems.
Education in Canada is controlled by each province and territory. Schooling is mandatory in all regions, which contributes to the country's literacy rate being so high: 99%.
Canada is one of the richest nations in the world. With an abundance of natural resources, it has a strong, growing and stable economy, with a strong presence in the service industry, which employs about three quarters of Canadians. It is a leading country in research and innovation.
Multiculturalism
The country encourages and values diversity, respects different cultures and their individualities, and honours its history and ancestors.
Living in diverse communities helps us to understand each other, respect different backgrounds and to live in harmony. In addition to diversity, it is a country known for being inclusive, supporting the LGBTQ + community and giving a voice to minorities.
Women also have a strong and fundamental role in the country. A survey revealed that women have a high participation rate in the workforce, with 82% of women between 25 and 54 years old working in the labour market. Women also play a major role in the current government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Undoubtedly, multiculturalism makes Canada strong and unique. And that is why immigrants feel welcomed and part of society. They’re not just foreigners – they’re Canadian too.
Safety
According to the 2020 Global Peace Index survey Canada was ranked sixth among the most peaceful nations in the world.
This research takes into account a variety of factors, including homicide rates, political stability, diplomatic relations, conflicts, incarceration rates, among others. Safety is undoubtedly one of the greatest reasons why people move to Canada. It is what makes Canada so attractive for those looking for a more peaceful life.
Healthcare system
Canada’s healthcare system is considered one of the best in the world, built on the principles of universality and equity, in which everyone has access to medical and hospital care. Each province or territory has its own rules and regulations.
An excerpt from the Canadian anthem that invites us to learn a little more about its beautiful history – True North, strong and free.
Oh Canada!
Our home and native land
True patriot love in all thy sons command
With glowing hearts, we see thee rise
The True North strong and free
God, keep our land glorious and free!
Canada, we stand on guard for thee
Canada, we stand on guard for thee. ”
